Pre-Season

-Locate all extension cords and check for any damage in the cord.

-Turn on your generator. Is everything functioning properly? Try connecting it to your homes power. If the generator works but does not provide power to the house. Have an electrician come look at the power to your home.

-Get your hurricane shutters out. Are your hurricane shutters damaged in any way? If you have manual crank shutters, do you have all the bolts? If you have automatic shutters, is they system working properly? This is the time to check if any replacements need to be done. Also, if you have never put them up before you will have some time to practice.

Pre Hurricane

-Head to the gas stations! This is one of the first resources to go. People evacuating need it for the trip, people who are staying and need it for the generators.

-Stock up on enough water for each member of your household to have for 3 days. The general rule of thumb from the American Red Cross is 1 gallon per person, per day.

-When headed to the grocery store take into consideration the resources you will have during the hurricane. Buying lots of frozen food is probably not the best idea. Having enough boxed and canned goods will ensure no matter what may happen during the storm your supplies will not go bad. The American Red Cross also suggests food for approximately 7 days.

-Other miscellaneous supplies you should have would be; flashlights, battery powered or hand-crank radio, extra batteries, first aid kit, any medications needed for 7 days time, and copies of personal documents.

-Secure your home. If you have hurricane shutters make sure you get these on your home. This is big when it comes to the safety of your home and anyone who may be inside. Do you have a hard time putting your hurricane shutters on? Contact us to get a quote on our Hurricane Special.
